Expert Imposter

Have you ever been asked a question, invited to speak, submit an article or otherwise be presented as an expert?  You may think, old hat, or your breath may hitch at the thought.  Does anxiety seep through your chest?

Today, we live in a world of almost infinite knowledge at your fingertips.  There is always something new to learn, a perspective that you hadn’t thought, a bit of research that you have yet to stumble upon.

What differentiates us, separates us from binary logic and algorithms is our ability to weave complex connections and create inferences.  We can take information shared with us and learn from it; apply it to our lives, without having to experience the decisions and outcomes ourselves.

Say yes.  Say yes when someone asks you to speak, or write or share your experience.  Push yourself out of your comfort zone.  Use the opportunity to connect with someone new and play with your experience.  If public speaking is something that you excel at, try a different approach, dress differently, do something that makes you a little nervous.  You’ll be glad you did it.
